Self-Portrait Flip Doll:

“5 Going On 50” is a needle-felted self-portrait of the artist, Jill Newman. One side represents how she remembers herself as a little girl, and the flip side depicts how she hopes to be seen now as she approaches age 50.  On four sides, she is surrounded by a surreal menagerie inspired by nostalgia, dreams, wishes, and symbols.   Every detail of the doll is imbued with memories and meaning.  Jill found the experience of creating her flip doll to be incredibly rewarding and healing.  See Jill's Facebook page and Instagram for lots of work in progress photos. Jill Newman © 2017.
