Welcome!

Welcome to Zazzy Peacock Studios!

Celebrating Creativity!

I'm Jill Newman, and I create one-of-a-kind hand-felted art jewelry and accessories, as well as sculpture and home decor.  I also love teaching needle felting and mixed media art.  While we're practicing social distancing, I hope you will join me online for needle felting and mixed media classes and camps.  If you haven't done any crafting or explored your creative side in a while, I assure you it will feel great.  Everyone has a creative side. You can't play with glitter glue without breaking into a smile.

Artist and owner, Jill Newman, creates original hand-felted sculpture, jewelry, and accessories. She also loves to teach, throw fun parties, and create a space where you can relax and enjoy expressing your own creativity.  In addition to her specialty in needle felting, Jill is sharing her love of other crafts and mixed media art –including painting, collage, art journaling, scrapbooking, modeling clay, paper mâché, and upcycled sculpture, to name a few.  At Zazzy Peacock Studios, you will find a vast array of art and craft supplies as well as inspiring sample projects and supportive instruction.  Stop by to shop for handmade art and gifts and to check out all exciting options for classes, parties, camps, craft nights, and after school. See photos of Jill's latest work on Facebook page and on Instagram.

About the Artist

Once upon a time, I was a lawyer, but I have always pursued artistic endeavors as well.  I officially quit my job to become an artist almost 20 years ago.  In 2011, when I discovered needle-felting, it was love at first poke.  After experimenting with the usual felted flowers and such, I decided to make things that I would actually wear -- modern, funky, colorful jewelry.  Many of my first designs were inspired by peacock feathers, animal prints, and other beautiful patterns and forms in nature.  And so, Zazzy Peacock Studios was born!  Now that I have discovered a love of teaching, Zazzy Peacock Studios has entered a new exciting phase, offering fun classes, parties, and summer camps at my new studio in Bethesda.  I am having a wonderful time making sample projects and planning classes and parties.  At the same time, I am pushing myself outside my comfort zone to take my felting and art to the next level.  For example, last year, I began a series of hybrid sculptures, reimagining inspiring women as powerful sphinxes with lion bodies.  So far, my sculptures have celebrated Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Michelle Obama, Frida Kahlo, Malala Yousafzai, Anita Hill, Nancy Pelosi, and Elizabeth Warren.  They are available to purchase for $675 and up. You can see more completed works in the Gallery, as well as my latest works in progress on my Facebook and Instragram pages. Please like and follow me, and join the mailing list below to get updates. Thanks for looking!

Thank you to Guiomar Ochoa for her review of Zazzy Peacock Studios!
"Meet Jill Newman and you’ll understand why she chose the name Zazzy Peacock for her new studio located in the Artists & Makers 2 space in Rockville. She’s a colorful, creative soul who is full of energy and loves working with equally minded youngsters. You must be eight and up to host a party at ZPS and Jill will work with you on the materials you’d like to work with as well as what you’ll be creating. Tweens are encouraged to create a custom project! You bring food and cake but can leave decorations behind as Jill has zazzed ZPS in such fun, bright colors, you won’t need to lift a finger. She even handmade a festive birthday banner!"

Note, I am no longer in Rockville and have also temporarily closed my Bethesda location.
